Copper Country schools: gone or no longer in use

Here is a list of past schools from Houghton, Keweenaw, and Baraga counties that are either no longer operational or now gone due to demolition or disrepair. The photographs come from a variety of sources, including the Michigan Technological University Archives, the Library of Congress, Clarence Monette’s local history books, local historical societies and museums, town centennial publications, and other reliable online collections. If you have a photo of a Copper Country school that is not on this list, please email me (owner@copperthreadgenealogy.com) so the collection can be as complete as possible.

*names of locations are below a given photo.

If you appreciate this collection, please consider contributing to our research with a one-time donation. There are over 100 schools on this list and hours of research time involved in creating it. Let’s keep Copper Country history alive together.
